Squibs Association versus BIFFA

Did you notice in Y&Y this month, that the National Squib Owners Association claim 600 members ?? - versus around 360 for BIFFA. Does anyone know any Squib owners who you can ask to understand how they make it so attractive?? Richard Hughes - do you know??

  1. As it is assumed that I might have a comment on Squibs vs FFs I must admit that my knowledge of Squibs at Datchet is limited to the fact that a number sank some years ago, and may still be on the bottom, and that they had brown sails. On the other hand: FFs at Datchet are sailed by a wonderfully skilled, attractive crowd and have white sails and colourful spis.

  2. Hi guys! Been a while due to work, but we will back for the winter series!
In my opinion, the class does itself no favours with regard to marketing, in that it is constantly refered to as an 'old mans' boat. The emphasis should be on the quality of fleet racing as a well matched one design that lasts.
Couples should be highlighted (I may be biased there) and younger sailors who aspire to big boat style match racing in a two man dinghy! Those that follow the match racing world cup, and look to names such as Ainslee and Minopreo should realize that the fifteen fleet retains this style of helm/crew, 'yacht' racing, in a two man fixed keel package.
As the sail plan is going through a modernization trial, I believe that the whole fifteen image needs to be updated as well.
